Building a strong email subscriber list can be tricky. Here are 3 tricks of-the-trade to build AND keep your subscribers.
1. Opt-In Forms
One of the easiest strategies to help grow your email subscribers is to add opt-in forms to your website. You can add subscribe or signup buttons around your website or create full opt-in forms with your email marketing tool, then embed them on your site.
A few key places to include forms are your:
Let your audience know what to expect from your emails! Will you be contacting them weekly? Or monthly? Is it promotional material or strictly newsletters? You can also provide some sort of incentive to get them to subscribe, such as 15% off when you sign up or a 'free' ebook.
2. Gated Content & Lead Magnets
That leads us perfectly to our next point. Another great way to build up your email list is by creating content that requires an email to access. An example I have seen (and subscribed to), is an office look book from ‘Who What Wear’.
This content is completely free, it’s just gated. This means people have to fill out an opt-in form in order to access the content.
Original research and reports are the best type of content to gate. Other lead magnet ideas include ebooks, checklists, templates and helpful resources related to your industry.
3. Seasonal Opt-Out Forms
(This one isn't about growing your list, more so retaining it!)
Holidays can be a lot, people are already busy and don't need their inbox being spammed on top of it all. Instead of losing that subscriber altogether, add a link on your holiday emails that will just remove them from just that time period.
For example Mothers Day might be a difficult time for some; by giving your customer a chance to not receive those emails you are showing them that you understand what could be a potential difficult season.
