How to Make the Most of Plan B

Sometimes, despite all of our planning and preparation, we don’t get the results we expected. When things don’t go according to plan, it’s easy to crawl back into bed and sulk. Don’t give up just yet! Remember, when one door closes another door opens so take this as an opportunity to learn and grow as a business and entrepreneur.

Where did I go wrong?

The first step in overcoming obstacles is finding your kryptonite. Identifying the trigger that caused your project to flop allows you to ensure you don’t make the same mistakes twice. Re-trace your steps and get to the nitty gritty of why the outcome wasn’t what you expected. Maybe your Instagram campaign didn’t engage as many followers as you predicted. Was it poor timing, insufficient promotion or were your hopes too high? It’s okay to admit defeat and accept that it wasn’t a worthwhile business pursuit for you. It’s always better to say, “oh well” than “what if”!

Learn from it

Once you know where it all went wrong, you can learn what not to do. An in-depth knowledge of what doesn’t work for your business and customers is crucial to success. Maybe your business venture flat lined because you missed a simple step. Try again, using your new knowledge to fuel your second attempt. The adversities we face as business owners is what enables us to grow, and ultimately excel in the industry.

Bouncing back

Pop on Eye of the Tiger, hype yourself up and bounce back like Rocky. Resilience is one of the strongest qualities you can have as a business owner. Don’t let your disappointment overwhelm you and distract you from your goals. Dust yourself off and move on. Taking a step back to look at the bigger picture ensures you don’t get caught up on the little things. At the end of the day, will that tiny hurdle really matter on your long and rewarding journey?

Back yourself

When you’re designing a new venture or launching a product, ask yourself what if? What if this approach doesn’t work? What will I do then? What’s my back up plan? Developing a plan B is just as important as your initial strategy as it allows you to bounce back from hardship without delay. Developing your plan B ahead of time prepares you mentally for disappointment. You won’t be left twiddling your thumbs, you know exactly what your next step is. Your plan B helps you get on with the hustle and grind without being tied down by a failed attempt.
Life isn’t full of sunshine and daisies, we face challenges and failure every day. Whether your disappointed about the results of a personal goal or business venture, dust yourself off, learn from your mistakes and move forward. Back yourself with a strong plan B so you’re not left wallowing in a failed attempt. Not sure where you went wrong? Holla at hey@wildandfree.com.au and we’ll help you get to the bottom of it. We’ll listen and learn with you, so we can brainstorm a concrete strategy to smash your business and branding goals.
